Islandshire is an imaginary home for our American Girl dolls (owned by Mom, Elizabeth and me) -- more than 40 of them named so far! Here are some photos and short introductions for each doll (in no particular order), which I hope will help keep names straight for readers of the Gazette.
Trudy (Customized Beforever Addy)
It's only fitting, being the one-and-only reporter for the Islandshire Gazette, that Trudy start off the group here. She joined the crowd in early Summer of 2018 as a TM #58 who was actually going to be one of Mom's dolls. We didn't actually unpack her until August, and (while we were holding her and letting the wig come down after so many months in a hair net) I started "playing" with her personality. Mom had decided that she would be a reporter, and I took it from there --- adding some sassy personality, making her little curls bounce when she walked and giving her some interesting comments to "say" while Mom paged through eBay results of adoptable little girls (used American Girl dolls, that is). After two days of me "playing" with Trudy, Mom decided that she should belong to me! I couldn't believe it. Ever since, she has become one of our favorite characters, because she hardly feels like a doll. That's how serious we are about our dolls here on Islandshire! So, Trudy helps us find adoptable little dollies and stands on a soapbox against real little girls who abuse their dolls and marker on them and put glitter makeup on their eyes! She has lots of other thoughts, too, so she needed this blog to share with others.
About a year later, we rescued a poor Beforever Addy doll and popped a cool multi-tone wig on her . . . and Trudy had a sudden new look!
Nanea is a very active member of the Islandshire community -- being my most spoiled (cute-as-a-button) doll. She lives in a very decorated Island House with her brother, Benny. Her special pet is Flossie the Silkie Chicken. Flossie won the Grand Champion animal prize at the first Islandshire Annual Wool Show, so her eggs are in high demand throughout the island.
She loves to dance the hula and practices every morning. She also dives for pearls with Benny and sells them at her little "Pearls and Shells" stand. She also enjoys making snacks and always has a table full of goodies for anyone who might stop by for a visit. Disney is a favorite theme in her house, and she has quite a large pin collection centering around the Aulani Resort (her "dream vacation"), Pineapple Dole Whip (her "dessert of choice"), the Hula Girls from the It's a Small World ride, Ariel and Moana.
Her favorite film is Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki, because she loves January Lotus and the Island of Kalilu. In November 2019, Nanea decided to have a new "trim" at the salon (a wig replacement) to make her hair look just like January!
Nanea is wearing an American Girl CYO Black Medium Curly with Bangs wig.
Benny (customized Nanea)
Benny is Nanea's twin brother who loves to swim, surf and dive. He's all boy and spends a good amount of each day diving for pearls and shells to sell at Nanea's stand. He's got a soft spot for rescue animals and dreams of having a pet skunk (Nanea's not so sure about that one . . .).
He's very proud of his scars on his tummy and loves to tell anyone and everyone about his scary shark encounter. This is a favorite theme with him, so he wears shark PJs, shark shoes and a shark tooth necklace.
Quite a handy fellow around the house, Benny also loves helping Nanea make that classic Hawaiian dish -- Poi!
Benny is a customized Nanea doll with eye makeup removed, Brown eyes and a Monique "Johnny" wig in dark brown.
Harold (customized Logan)
Harold is named in honour of an adopted uncle who was a gunner on B-17s and B-24s in WWII. Little Harold takes his job as the only pilot on Islandshire very seriously and dresses in full flight clothes almost all the time . . . just in case he might need to go flying! In his spare time, though, Harold enjoys being the leader of the Islandshire Merry Men Club. He's also the proprietor of the island's best catering business, The Blue Boar -- a stand that features classic meals like sandwiches, burgers, french toast and eggs, french fries and more!
When it comes to hobbies, Harold enjoys calling up his chums on his HAM Radio and training his sheep dog, Alton. He's also an amazing big brother to his baby sister, Truannie.
Harold is wearing an American Girl TM #76 wig.
I'm working on adding dolls to this page! More coming . . . soon.
