Pictures are posted and waiting for votes on the regular front page of the Islandshire Gazette blog. (If you're not sure what this has to do with Wool Week, then be sure to scroll down and read today's entry.) Voting will remain open all weekend, and the winner will be announced in the final Wool Week entry here on Monday. Thanks for voting, and remember . . . LOVE A LONGWOOL!
Hello, everyone! After a few minor setbacks, it's time for another Wool Week! Almost everyone on Islandshire has pitched in to make it a success this year, and there are a lot of fun events coming up. Be sure to start checking my blog here for the few weeks, because "Wool Week" will actually last fifteen blogging days this year. There has been some rather exciting news in the Islandshire sheep world. You all remember my pet Whiteface Dartmoor, Berengaria. Well, she had lambs this year -- one boy and one girl! So, Albie now has lamb friends to play with. I'd like to introduce Wilberforce and Molenick (that's Wilby on the left, the one with the grumpy look). This means that my little flock now numbers five. And all Conservation Breeds! Berengaria and her lambs are longwools, as is Albie (a Leicester Longwool lamb). Sheepie is not a longwool; she's Black Welsh Mountain -- another rare breed with some fabulous fiber! Hope to see you back tomorrow for the start of all the fun! And remember . . . Keep Calm and Choose Wool!
Hi, there! I can't believe that "Wool Week" is finally here. It feels like I've been planning and waiting for this all year! This event has become so popular across the UK that the week has actually been extended to two weeks, so there will be fun wool-related posts through October 20th -- culminating in the first Annual Islandshire Wool Show. All of this planning started a while ago, but I think the real beginning was when Albie finally arrived. Albie is my pet Leicester Longwool lamb. It seemed like he was never going to get here. Mom promised he'd arrived by Spring, but something was always holding him up. Of course, I was very happy to have my two pet sheep already, but I needed a lamb. A Leicester Longwool lamb. Well, after so much wating, it was a real shock when he finally came! The day started out like any other day. It was getting late in Summer, but the hot weather lasted so long that the plants were crazy! I had a lot of work to do in my garden, and I wasn't really suspecting anything. Eliot told me that he was going to take a ride on his scooter and find out if Harold wanted to spend the day with us. That left me with a lot of time take care of my flowers and conquer some pesky weeds. After a while, though, I sort of started day dreaming about sheep . . . It was getting late and almost time to return to the house when I heard the unmistakable sound of Eliot's scooter coming towards me. He had Harold riding on the back, and Harold's sheep dog, Alton, running behind. But wait . . . they were pulling something, too! I looked up and couldn't believe it! It was Albie! At last, he's here . . . When the boys finally revived me, there was Albie -- the most beautiful lamb I've ever seen. It hadn't been a dream! He came right to me and wanted to play, and he even let Eliot show him some of the flowers at the edge of the garden. I'm not sure how Albie feels about Alton, but Harold's working on training Alton to be a fine sheep dog -- so I'm sure that they'll get along just fine. In the next post, we'll introduce Albie to Berengaria and Sheepie. In the meantime, keep calm and choose wool!
